Ignite Charity: Waterloo – September 12th

Congratulations to Ignite Charity: Waterloo on their premiere event September 12th! What is Ignite Charity: Waterloo? This first of its kind event follows that same format as the other Ignite Events you have come to know and love, but with a twist: the thought-provoking topics are about all-things charity! This is a fabulous opportunity to spark conversation and collaboration throughout the community. The first event will be held in Waterloo on September 12th. After that, watch for events to pop up in other cities!

While we at Ignite Waterloo strongly support the efforts of Ignite Charity: Waterloo, we would like to ensure there is an understanding that their efforts are completely independent of those of Ignite Waterloo. We are proud to have been an inspiration to Ignite Charity Waterloo and wish them great success in spreading the word and opening the minds about local charitable efforts.

Ignite Waterloo 10 on October 23 at CIGI

We’ve been hard at work making plans for our next big event. Today we’re excited to announce that Ignite Waterloo 10 will be held on Tuesday, October 23 at the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo.

Those of you who have followed us for a while will know that we love to hold our events in interesting spaces in Waterloo Region. Our roster of past event venues makes for an impressive list:

  • The Museum (3 times!)
  • Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts
  • The Tannery (2 times!)
  • Whistle Bear Golf Club
  • Waterloo Region Museum
  • Perimeter Institute

These sites have helped make for nine successful evenings of presentations, socializing, and fun. That tradition will continue at our tenth event the Centre for International Governance Innovation. Normally home to research, policy debate and discussion on multilateral governance improvements, on October 23, 2012, CIGI will also be a temporary home to the traveling Ignite Waterloo community.

We’ll announce more details soon.

In the meantime, now is as good a time as any to consider delivering an Ignite talk at this event. Interested? Let us know by applying now! Want to be a part of this great event but don’t want to give a talk? Consider sponsoring Ignite Waterloo.

Ignite Waterloo Community Contest Winner!

We received a great collection of entries for our Community Contest, however, we can only pick one winner. The best entry we received that best shared the Ignite Waterloo experience was actually from one of the speakers of Ignite Waterloo 9!

Congratulations to Jaymis Goertz, who spoke at Ignite Waterloo 9 with the topic: The Zen of Gardening or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Embrace Chaos. He submitted to us an honest and eye opening blog post about his experience as a speaker for Ignite Waterloo, and how it differs from other events in the area. You can check out his blog post here.

We would like to thank everyone who submitted an entry. We are glad we were able to touch so many people at Ignite Waterloo 9.

We’ll be announcing details for our next event, Ignite Waterloo 10, very shortly. Stay tuned for details! You will certainly not want to miss this one!
